Jail for man identified as ‘Saddam Hossain’

       SEREMBAN: A Bangladeshi who claimed his name was Saddam Hossain when he went to a Covid-19 vaccination centre in Nilai was sentenced to nine months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here for impersonation.The 26-year-old, whose real name is Mizan Nur Rahman, allegedly cheated Muhammad Nur Ikhwan Hamzah at the Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia vaccination centre by claiming to be the holder of a passport with the serial number BY0934943, which belonged to a person identified only as Helal.

       The accused pleaded guilty after the charge was read to him before magistrate Norzaliza Tesmin.

       He was charged with committing the offence at 10am on Sept 13.

       Under Section 419 of the Penal Code, the offence carries a jail term of up to seven years, a fine or both upon conviction.

       Mizan also pleaded guilty to a second charge of not having a valid document or pass to enter Malaysia.

       He allegedly committed the offence at around 12.30pm on the same day at the Nilai police station.

       The accused was charged under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, which provides a fine of not more than RM10,000 or a jail term not exceeding five years or both upon conviction.

       For this offence, Norzaliza sentenced him to three months’ jail.

       However, she ordered that both sentences run concurrently.
