When you pick up a Penguin you’re treated to a chocolatey bite and a joke to make you chuckle. For decades, Brits have been laughing and sharing the biscuit one-liners everywhere from the playground to the office canteen, and now McVitie’s has revealed the nation’s favourite Penguin jokes of all time.

To mark World Penguin Day tomorrow (25 April), Brits were asked to vote for the most funny joke that’s found on the back of the iconic snack.

Put to a poll of 2,000 adults, the nation’s favourite Penguin biscuit joke has been revealed as: ‘What was the name of the Emperor Penguin? Julius Freezer’.

The Top 10 Penguin biscuit jokes of all time are:

       1. What was the name of the Emperor Penguin? Julius Freezer

       2. Why can’t penguins fly? Because they are chocolate biscuits

       3. Why do penguins wear glasses? To help their ice-sight!

       4. What do you call 500 penguins in Trafalgar Square? Lost

       5. Why can’t penguins play football? Because there’s snowball

       6. How does a penguin build its house? Igloos it together!

       7. How do penguins get around? On a b-icicle

       8. What’s black, white, and red all over? A sunburnt penguin

       9. Why do penguins stay in pairs? Freezer crowd

       10. Why are penguins good racing car drivers? Because they are always in pole position

Brits think these jokes are flippin’ funny as nearly three-quarters (73%) read the punchy gags every time they eat a bar, while nine in 10 people (92 per cent) say they always put a smile on their face.

They’re not the only ones. The Humboldt penguins at London Zoo’s Penguin Beach got in on the joke as they were spotted having a brrr-illiant time ahead of World Penguin Day this year as zookeepers treated the waddle to their own comedy show of the top 10.

As well as a little laugh, Brits will be able to learn more about penguins as the jokes will now be joined with fun penguin facts by the ZSL (Zoological Society of London) experts.

Adam Woolf at McVitie’s, said: “Penguin biscuits, and their famous one-liner jokes, have been putting a smile on the faces of families for decades. What better way to celebrate them this World Penguin Day than with our proud partners ZSL – who are working across the world to protect animals just like Humboldt penguins.”

In addition to marking World Penguin Day, the adorable comedy gig also comes as a celebration of the partnership between McVitie's Penguin and international conservation charity ZSL (Zoological Society of London). The exciting new partnership, launched in 2023, supports McVitie's aim to connect more families with wildlife and hopes to inspire more children to care for the planet, while also helping to fund ZSL's vital work.
