KUALA LUMPUR: Three individuals, including a Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) personnel, were detained in connection with trafficking drugs.

       Police also seized some 5kg of ganja worth almost RM10,000.

       Wangsa Maju OCPD Supt Ashari Abu Samah said the first suspect - a 42-year-old male HKL personnel - was detained at Kampung Bandar Setapak at about 6.45pm on Dec 17.

       "We found two blocks of ganja weighing 2kg inside a sling bag," he told a press conference at the Wangsa Maju police headquarters on Monday (Dec 20).

       Further investigations led police to the first suspect's home in Pudu, where his 42-year-old wife was arrested, he added.

       "We seized three more blocks of ganja weighing 3kg in the suspect's bedroom.

       "The last arrest was made at a restaurant in Kota Damansara at about 9pm on the same day. A 50-year-old, believed to be the drug supplier, was arrested," he said.

       Supt Ashari said the woman was detained, as police believed that she was in cahoots with her husband.

       "We believe this syndicate has been active since last year.

       "They are catering to customers in Klang Valley, especially in Wangsa Maju," he said.

       The total 5kg of ganja seized is worth about RM9,800, he added.

       Supt Ashari said police are investigating whether the HKL personnel had conducted his business at the hospital.

       "We are still in the midst of investigating further.

       "We will uncover the extent of the syndicate," he said.
