PETALING JAYA: There is no conflict between the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) Anti-Corruption Advisory Board (ACAB) and chairman Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang, says board member Prof Datuk Mohammad Agus Yusoff.

       He said that it was just a matter of having differing views on the accusations against MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki.

       He also said that they would meet soon to resolve these issues, Berita Harian quoted him as saying.

       “We will conduct a board meeting at the end of this month and hopefully we will be able to resolve these differences of opinions.

       “It was merely differing views and not a conflict,” Mohammad Agus said on Tuesday (Jan 11).

       He said that ACAB members, including him, have decided not to comment further to avoid worsening the situation.

       Azam has been caught in a controversy after it was revealed that he was involved in the purchase of millions of shares in two public-listed companies in 2015.

       He said that his brother borrowed his share trading account to do the transactions and the shares were subsequently transferred to him.

       In a press conference on Jan 5, Abu Zahar said the ACAB was satisfied by the explanation given by Azam on the issue during an internal inquiry on Nov 5.

       However, six other members of the ACAB – Tan Sri Ismail Omar, Datuk Seri Azman Ujang, Datuk Seri Akhbar Satar, Datuk Hamzah Kassim, Datuk David Chua Kok Tee and Mohammad Agus – distanced themselves from Abu Zahar’s statement, saying that it was his personal view.
