MELAKA: Newly-elected MCA assemblymen Datuk Lim Ban Hong and Ngwe Hee Sem are not resting to savour their victories in the state election.
They will ensure they will deliver on their promises as a means of thanking the voters for choosing them as their representatives.
Lim said for him, every vote that he got has given him the strength to continue providing his services for the constituents of the Kelebang state seat.
“I will do my best to deliver on my election manifesto,” he said during a gathering at a coffeeshop in Kampung Bukit Rambai yesterday.
Lim, who is Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister, has pledged, among others, to revive sick projects in Kelebang.
He also wants to ensure that more affordable housing will be constructed in the area so that people can afford a roof over their heads.
Lim hoped that the new Melaka government will carry out its programmes to revive the state’s economy which has been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Many businesses and people are still struggling. Reviving the economy will be another important aspect of the state administration.
“As their assemblyman, I will work to ensure that the constituents will be able to enjoy prosperity and stability,” he added.
Lim won the Kelebang seat with 5,028 votes – a 876-vote majority against Pakatan Harapan’s Datuk Gue Teck and Perikatan Nasional’s Bakri Jamaluddin.
In the last general election, Gue won the seat with a majority of 789 votes over Lim and Mohd Shafiq Ismail of PAS.
There are 20,166 registered voters in Kelebang.
Meanwhile, Ngwe, who is known as “Ah Sem” here, also expressed his thanks to his supporters and the voters for choosing him as their representative in the state legislative assembly.
“I will carry out the responsibilities entrusted to me to the best of my ability and strive to fulfil my promises to the people.
“I will look after the people’s welfare and their interests and I will make sure that their views and needs are brought up to the state administration,” he said.
He was met while chatting with the people at Kampung Machap Baru yesterday.
On his plans for Machap Jaya, which is located about 30km away from the city centre, Ngwe said he wants to revive the constituency’s eco-tourism and cultural attractions and to develop more small and medium enterprises.
“Machap Jaya has many interesting and lesser-known attractions that are unique to the community living here.
“There are also seven Orang Asli villages. If we can help them with producing and marketing their handicraft, we can create a vibrant tourism industry here,” he said.
Ngwe said he wants to ensure that more low and medium-cost houses were built, and help the Felda third-generation settlers.
He also plans to continue giving free online tuition for students in the area, an idea that was recommended by the Alor Gajah Umno Youth division.
Ngwe won the Machap Jaya seat in the five-cornered fight against Pakatan Harapan’s Law Bing Haw, Parti Perikatan India Muslim Nasional’s (Iman) Abdul Aziz, Perikatan Nasional’s Tai Siong Jiul and Independent candidate Azlan Daud. There are 12,487 registered voters in Machap Jaya.
