JOHOR BARU: The Johor Baru-Singapore Rapid Transit System Link (RTS Link) project is on the right track and has reached 17% completion, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The Transport Minister said that he is satisfied with the current progress and would continue to monitor its progress closely to ensure that there would not be any delays.

"Although there are many challenges, the Ministry would ensure that the project involving Malaysia and Singapore would be completed as scheduled so that it can begin operating by January 2027.

"I am satisfied with the current progress, which has now reached 17%. In terms of technical matters, there are no issues, but we only need to relocate the two pipelines belonging to Singapore's Public Utilities Board (PUB).

"An agreement in terms of policy has been reached with Singapore for the relocation of the 900mm and 1,600mm of pipes and I will present it to the Cabinet soon," he said.

He noted that the Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT Corp) has also been instructed by the Ministry to always check on the progress of the contractors involved to ensure that all works could be done based on schedule.

Dr Wee said this to reporters after a surprise visit to check on the progress of the RTS Link at Bukit Chagar here on Saturday (June 11).
