IPOH: A total of 4,500 employees of Proton Holdings Bhd in Tanjung Malim near here will receive their first vaccine dose through the Public-Private Partnership Covid-19 Industry Immunisation Programme (Pikas).
Perak industry, investment and corridor development committee chairman Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya said the vaccination centre (PPV) at the Proton Sports Complex in Tanjung Malim aimed to administer 800 doses of vaccine daily.
The centre will be open until July 17.
“Pikas PPV in Tanjung Malim is one of the four centres suggested in Perak. Three more PPV will be set up in stages at several districts after obtaining approval from the International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti).
He said Miti would be assisted by InvestPerak and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) through the Industrial Support Coordination Centre to identity several new locations to implement the Pikas initiative at industrial centres in the state.
Under the initiative, the government aims to vaccinate at least two million workers in the manufacturing sector by the third quarter of this year.
As at July 11, 485,403 people in Perak have received their first dose while 270,092 have completed both doses. — Bernama
