SELAYANG: A 17-year-old boy drowned while swimming with his friends at Sungai Lagong here.
Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Shahrul Nizam Ramlee said the incident occurred at 2.25pm on Friday (June 10).
"We received a distress call and dispatched a fire engine, an emergency medical rescue services unit and eight personnel from the Selayang Fire Station to the scene at Taman Rimba Bukit Lagong.
"They arrived at 2.34pm and began searching for the victim," he said when contacted on Friday.
He said they managed to find the victim unconscious in the river at around 3.15pm and brought him to the riverbank.
"He was pronounced dead by health officials at the scene.
"The victim has been identified as Muhammad Alif Nasir Alias," he said, adding that further checks found the victim had gone to the river with four friends prior to the incident.
