KUANTAN (Bernama): A settler died, believed to be due to a gunshot wound in the chest, while at an oil palm estate in Felda Bukit Sagu 4 here on Tuesday (Oct 27).
Kuantan district police chief ACP Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said the gunshot that hit Mohamad Omar, 67, from Felda Bukit Sagu here was suspected to have come from a home-made rifle found at the scene of the incident.
The police were alerted to the incident at 4.22pm by staff of Bukit Goh Medical Clinic after the victim was taken there by his wife and a friend.
"Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim had gone to harvest oil palm around 10am before contacting his wife at 3.36pm informing her that he had been shot.
"The victim’s wife claimed that her husband was found in critical condition by his best friend, who she had sought for help in locating him.
"He was pronounced dead by the doctor at 4.20pm," he said when contacted here on Tuesday.
Wan Mohd Zahari said the victim, who also suffered injuries to his right palm, was taken to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital here for an autopsy. - Bernama
