'It'll be such fun!' Princess Charlotte's return to school marks academic milestone

The six-year-old will return to Thomas’s Battersea school in south-west London in September to begin Year 2. It signals the end of Charlotte’s time in lower school years - and the princess will take her first SATS in maths and reading. The second SATS is in Year 6.

And this is of greater significance as Charlotte could be the last member of the royals to take Year 2 SATs amid suggestions they will become optional in 2023, according to the UK’s The Good Schools Guide.

Royal fans wished Charlotte luck on social media. One wrote: "Good luck Charlotte am sure you will enjoy it."

Another wrote: "Have a great time in school Charlotte. It will be such fun!"

Prince George, who also attends Thomas’s Battersea, will enter Year 4.

Prince William was educated four miles away at Wetherby School in Notting Hill, before moving to Ludgrove School and later Eton College.

Kate Middleton attended St Andrew’s school in Berkshire and Marlborough College in Wiltshire.

Charlotte was excited to start her time at school - as revealed by Kate and William in 2019.

Fellow parent Helen Jones spoke to the royal couple during a walkabout in Cumbria.

Ms Jones told Hello!: "She said Charlotte was looking forward to school."

The Duchess was spotted with Princess Charlotte and Prince George in 2018 shopping at the Peter Jones department store in London for school shoes.

A source told Hello! that Kate Middleton forgot to bring socks for George and Charlotte to wear when they were trying on the shoes - as they had been wearing sandals.

Kate Middleton reportedly had to borrow socks from the shop.
