GEORGE TOWN: Penang is ready to move into Phase Two of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) as 10.1% of the population has received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine, says Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
He added this was achieved as of Saturday (July 3).
“With this, we managed to achieve the three main indicators to enter into Phase Two of the NRP," said Chow.
“I was informed that the relevant ministries will discuss the phase transition for Penang to be tabled in the special session of the National Security Council (NSC) meeting on Monday (July 5),” he added in a statement on Sunday (July 4).
The three main indicators include the number of daily Covid-19 cases reported, the number of people who are fully vaccinated and the state of the healthcare system.
Chow also reassured that it is a balancing act between the vaccination centres’ capabilities and also the vaccines that Penang would be able to receive.
On Saturday (July 3), the Federal Government announced five states - Kelantan, Pahang, Perak, Terengganu and Perlis - will transition to Phase Two of NRP starting Monday (July 5).
States transitioning into the next phase will enjoy a slight easing in restrictions in terms of business and other related matters.
Each phase will have their own standard operating procedures and list of activities that are allowed or disallowed.
