KUALA LUMPUR: Some 3,000 police reports have been lodged against a preacher who allegedly insulted non-Muslim religions, as well as the Dayak community.
The preacher was reportedly seen making disparaging remarks in a video clip that has gone viral.
Global Human Rights Federation president S. Shashi Kumar said several groups and NGOs are lodging reports against the preacher in 17 districts.
"We want him (the preacher) to be arrested and charged as soon as possible,” he told reporters at the Sentul district police headquarters on Sunday (Oct 3), where he said some 200 reports in Sentul itself were lodged against the preacher.
"The non-Muslims are being attacked needlessly.
"We believe in the rule of law and we hope the authorities will act on this matter," he added.
In the video, the preacher's remarks include a claim that “at the end of time, disciples of non-Muslim religions will be scrambling together to kill Muslims in the world.”
Shashi Kumar also urged the government to table a Bill against racial and religious hatred in Parliament to preserve unity and harmony among Malaysians.
"Action should be taken against those who insult other religions or races.
"We hope National Unity Minister Datuk Halimah Sadique will act and introduce the bill soon," he said.
