PETALING JAYA: HSS Engineers Bhd has secured a contract extension worth RM22.7mil from the Kedah state government to upgrade a water treatment plant in Kubang Pasu, Kedah.
In a statement yesterday, the engineering and project management company said its associate, SMHB Sdn Bhd, had obtained an extended appointment by the Kedah state government for the upgrading works.
“Earlier, SMHB had entered into a principal agreement to provide design services for the project from Dec 1, 2016 to Jan 1, 2022, with the original contract value of RM16mil.
“On Jan 11, 2022, SMHB received the supplemental agreement which extends SMHB’s appointment to encompass the construction stage of the project from Jan 2, 2022 to Aug 28, 2025, with a revised contract value of RM22.7mil.”
HSS said the revised contract is expected to contribute positively to the group from the financial years ending Dec 31, 2022 until Dec 31, 2025.
“Pursuant to the exclusive teaming arrangement between SMHB and SMHB Engineering Sdn Bhd (SMHBE), a wholly-owned subsidiary of HSS, SMHB and SMHBE will be collaborating exclusively to execute and complete the contract,” it said.
In the same statement, HSS executive vice-chairman Tan Sri Kuna Sittampalam said SMHB’s continued appointment with an extended scope of services is a very clear message of the Kedah state’s commitment to enhance its water sector infrastructure.
He added that the contract extension was an affirmation of HSS’ capabilities thus far.
“I am very elated that HSS is beginning the new year by reinforcing our leadership in providing engineering consultancy services for critical areas of water, rail and road transport sectors, on top of also entering into new areas of growth such as telecommunications.
“We believe that this would set the tone for our growth path going forward,” he said.
On Jan 10, 2022, HSS successfully diversified into the telecommunications sector as its unit, HSS Integrated Sdn Bhd, accepted two framework service agreements from Digital Nasional Bhd to provide consultancy services for the national implementation of Malaysia’s 5G infrastructure and network.
Prior to that, SMHB had accepted a letter of appointment on Jan 3, 2022 to be the consulting engineer for the upgrading project of the Sungai Marang bridge in Marang, Terengganu for a contract sum of RM15.1mil.
HSS, through its subsidiaries and associates, is principally involved in the provision of engineering and project management services including engineering design, construction supervision, project management, environmental services and building information modelling services.
The group’s notable large-scale projects include the MRT 1 and 2, Maju Expressway 2, the West Coast Expressway, SUKE Expressway, Pahang – Selangor Water Raw Transfer, the development of Sungai Selangor Phase 1, 2 and 3, the Sarawak Water Grid Study and the East Coast Rail Link.
