A poll carried out by Savanta Comres has found one-in-two UK adults support a two-week national lockdown in December. Express.co.uk is now asking readers if they are in favour of a Christmas lockdown. Vote in the poll below and leave your thoughts in the comments section.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has already moved to Plan B restrictions in England and has refused to rule out imposing further measures over the festive period following the surge of the Omicron variant.

The Savanta Comres found 51 percent of UK adults support a two-week lockdown starting in December.

The survey asked 1,004 people on December 14 - and found 32 percent of adults opposed a return of draconian measures.

The poll suggested among those aged 18-34, 45 percent were in favour of a lockdown and 34 percent were opposed.

For those aged 35-54, it suggested 54 percent supported and 32 percent were against.

Meanwhile, for those aged 55 and above, 53 percent supported and 31 percent opposed.

The poll also suggested Labour voters were more inclined than Tory supporters to back another lockdown.

The survey suggested 60 percent of Labour voters were in favour, compared to just 48 percent of Tory backers.

The Government’s plan to tighten Covid restrictions were approved by parliament on Tuesday – despite a large-scale Tory rebellion.

Vaccine passes will now be required for entry to large venues, such as nightclubs.

Some 97 Tory backbenchers voted against the plans – the biggest revolt in the premiership of Mr Johnson.

Masks will need to be worn in more indoor spaces in England, including museums and galleries, meanwhile a vote was passed for mandatory vaccinations for NHS and social care staff by April 2022.

Fears over another lockdown ignited this afternoon after the UK recorded the highest daily total coronavirus cases since the pandemic began

Official figures showed 78,610 new cases recorded as of 9am on Wednesday.

It is the largest figure since mass testing began in summer last year, and surpasses the previous record on January 8 when 68,053 new cases were reported.

Earlier today, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said he believes that no further measures will be required before Christmas.

Speaking at a Downing Street briefing this afternoon, the Prime Minister said it is "absolutely vital" everyone gets a booster jab to tackle the Omicron variant.

He warned in some areas the doubling rate of the variant was now under two days.

Mr Johnson said: "I'm afraid we're also seeing the inevitable increase in hospitalisations up by 10 percent nationally, week on week, and up by almost a third in London."

The Prime Minister did, however, add there were also "signs of hopes" and a "great national fightback has begun".
