KOTA KINABALU: Parents have been urged to get their children immunised against Covid-19 at vaccination centres opening up at shopping complexes during the school holidays.

Kota Kinabalu district health officer Dr Suhaila Osman said the opening of vaccination centres at these complexes would make it easier for children aged five to 11 to get the vaccination under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme for Children (PICKids).

"The vaccination centres are open every day during the school holidays so parents who bring their children shopping can also get them vaccinated.

"I urge parents to act quickly to get their children vaccinated because when schools open (on March 21), the chances of being infected are high," she told the media after a multi-agency integrated enforcement operation in the city here Monday (March 7).

"Now is the best time because the vaccine takes about two weeks to act," Dr Suhaila said, noting that the number of children getting vaccinated was still low.

Meanwhile, a total of 14 compound notices for various offences were issued during operations involving the state Health Department, Kota Kinabalu City Hall, National Security Council (Sabah) and police.

Dr Suhaila said some 1,500 premises and 1,500 individuals were checked during the operations.

She said 10 compound notices were issued under Regulation 16 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 for failing to scan the MySejahtera application when entering a premises.

Four compound notices were issued under the Tobacco Products Control Regulations 2004 for selling cigarettes below the minimum price, failing to display "no smoking" signs in premises, as well smoking in prohibited areas (food outlets).

So far this year, the authorities have issued 88 compound notices that also include offences under food hygiene regulations. Last year, a total of 2,355 compound notices were issued.

Dr Suhaila noted that overall, public compliance with SOPs was very good.
