PETALING JAYA: Stern action must be taken against the culprits behind any incidence of fake vaccination, said Datuk Seri Michael Chong.

The MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head said his office had recently received many similar videos and complaints of “fake vaccine jabs”.

“I can't be certain if the allegations are real.

"But the fact that the police have confirmed there were incidents of ‘fake jabs’ and arrested three suspects for investigation should not be taken lightly,” he said in a statement on Friday (July 23).

From the complaints, Chong said there appeared to be unscrupulous parties trying to sell each vaccine for up to RM420 to employers for their undocumented foreign workers.

“The police must view this matter seriously and take stern action against the culprits,” he said.

He also advised those receiving their vaccine injections to be watchful during the process.

However, he added that such incidents were few and isolated.

Chong urged the people not to disregard the medical frontliners' hard work and sacrifices to vaccinate as many people as possible every day.

The department's legal adviser Datuk Theng Book also called for stern action against those who administered fake jabs.

He said as public servants, medical frontliners who knowingly disobey any laws and cause harm to anyone face a year's jail or a fine, or both, under Section 166 of the Penal Code.
