THE demolition of the Sri Muniswara temple in Pandamaran, Klang, has been postponed for 14 days after strong opposition from the local community, Malaysia Nanban reported.
The temple in Taman Pandamaran Permai was issued with an evacuation notice some time ago and given a final one-week reminder on March 22.
The temple, located on land belonging to the Selangor Water Management Authority failed to relocate after the notice expired, a Klang Municipal Council officer identified as Lina Zuhaida Embong said.
When council officials turned up at the temple with equipment, heavy machinery and a large police escort, they were met by unhappy residents protesting the demolition.
Sentosa assemblyman Dr Gunarajah George, who was contacted as the situation turned tense, requested the officials postpone the demolition for two weeks to allow the temple management to relocate.
