A 12-year-old boy was shot and wounded early Wednesday as he was walking through the LeDroit Park area just after midnight, D.C. police said.

       The victim was conscious and breathing when police arrived in the 200 block of V Street about 12:07 a.m., police officials said. The boy was taken to a hospital with wounds that appeared to be non-life-threatening, officials said.

       Police were trying to determine who fired a gun in the area and why.
