Chicago’s Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection cited seven businesses between last Thursday and Sunday for failing to abide by the city’s mask mandate, according to a Tuesday news release.
As of Sept. 13, the department had cited 41 businesses since the city’s mask mandate went into effect Aug. 20, according to a BACP spokesperson.
Between Sept. 9 and Sept. 12, the department cited seven businesses, including nightclubs, an art center and a gym for flouting the mask mandate.
Investigators conducted 85 investigations during the same time period, according to the news release.
Since Aug. 20, everyone age 2 and older — vaccinated or not — has been required to wear masks in indoor public spaces in Chicago because of the rise of the highly transmissible delta variant.

The mask mandate applies to bars and restaurants, though patrons are permitted to remove their masks when eating or drinking.
Public health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady has pointed to a COVID-19 case rate of below 400 new cases per day as a signpost that would lead to the city lifting the mandate.
