Weather authorities have issued multiple watches and warnings extending through much of the day Saturday. While a tornado warning for east-central Cook County expired at 12:15 p.m., there’s still a marine warning until 2 p.m., a flash flood warning until 6:15 p.m. and a tornado watch until 7 p.m.
The earlier tornado warning was issued after officials said a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over East Garfield Park and/or the West Town neighborhoods. Sirens blared in some areas.

The marine warning was for nearshore waters from Winthrop Harbor to Gary and open waters from Winthrop Harbor to Michigan City out to mid-lake. A severe thunderstorm capable of producing waterspouts was spotted over Belmont Harbor at 11:55 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.
The tornado watch was issued at 12:06 p.m. until 7 p.m. for the following Illinois counties: Livingston, Ford, Iroquois, Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kankakee and Will. It also includes these counties in northwest Indiana: Benton, Jasper, Lake, Newton and Porter.

A flash flood warning also remains in effect until 6:16 p.m. Saturday for the Chicagoland region, with showers and thunderstorms expected and possibly torrential downpours. The National Weather Service watch said flooding is possible in low-lying areas including farm fields, ditches and roads. Water levels may also rise in rivers and streams.

The National Weather Service said it received reports of flash flooding on Lake Shore Drive, and Blue Line service was temporarily suspended between UIC/Halsted and Forest Park because of standing water, the CTA announced.
Saturday’s storms marked the second time in a week that tornado sirens sounded in parts of Chicagoland. On Sunday, at least two tornadoes struck the Chicago area and a third touched down in northwest Indiana. The most destructive touched down in Naperville, Woodridge and Darien, and was categorized as an EF-3 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale. It damaged more than 200 houses and other structures and reduced some to rubble.
