Illinois State Police responded to an expressway shooting on the northbound Bishop Ford Freeway near 103rd Street at 2:11 a.m. Tuesday.
No injuries were reported, said state police spokeswoman Haylie Polistina. All lanes of the freeway were closed between 3:34 a.m. and 3:53 a.m. for the investigation.
There have been 203 shootings on expressways so far this year, far exceeding those in all of 2020, when there were 128 such shootings, according to state police data. And in 2020 there had been more than twice the number of shootings than the 52 expressway shootings in 2019. There were 43 in 2018, according to state police.
