The question residents in Chicagoland have been wondering for the past few weeks will soon be answered: Is it ever going to snow?
The National Weather Service shared on Twitter that the area will see its first accumulated snowfall on Tuesday with an estimated 1-3 inches. Forecasters predict more snow to land on Wednesday and more still shortly after the New Year.
On December 21, the first day of winter, Chicago officially broke a record for having gone the longest time into the cold season without having measurable snow. The last record set was in 2012.

Kevin Donofrio, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said snow is expected to fall starting at 10 a.m. on Tuesday and the peak of snow accumulation will be between noon and 4 p.m.
“After the snow ends, there will be rain and drizzle of about one to three inches,” Donofrio said.
On Wednesday, expect mostly cloudy skies with some light snow in the evening, according to Donofrio.
“Thursday and Friday look pretty quiet but another chance of snow will come in the middle of the weekend,” Donofrio said.
