Accoridng to TOOTY's website, "the awards celebrate the achievements of those who have made a special contribution to public life while maintaining – in the phrase of our founding editor, Richard Ingrams – undoubted snap in their celery". This year the judges attempted to honour Elizabeth II herself, in recognition of the sovereign’s leadership during the pandemic and in partly due to the Platinum Jubilee next year.

The Queen politely rejected, sending a lovely letter to TOOTY from Balmoral Castle.

The letter was sent by her assistant private secretary, Tom Laing-Baker, who stated: "Her Majesty believes you are as old as you feel."

"As such, The Queen does not believe she meets the relevant criteria to be able to accept and hopes you will find a more worthy recipient."

The letter has been shared widely on social media, with people commending the Queen's humour.
