MELAKA: Three electric car assemblers from China are keen to open their manufacturing plants here, said a Melaka exco man.
State industrial and investment committee chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the Chinese companies had made offers to invest in the plants here.
"The state government is in the midst of identifying suitable sites for the venture," he said after the opening of the state legislative assembly by Melaka Yang-di Pertua Tun Dr Mohd Ali Rustam on Monday (Feb 28).
Ab Rauf said an electric bus maker from China was among those who had shown interest.
He said the work on setting up the pioneer electric vehicle plant in the state was in progress.
"The plant will create job and business opportunities for the locals," he added.
