A MAN cosplaying a character from the popular manga Tokyo Revengers was mobbed by a group of tourists beside Xuanwu Lake in Nanjing, China, on Jan 3, Sin Chew Daily reported.
In a viral video, the tourists were seen demanding that the man remove his biker gang uniform with the words “Tokyo Manji Gang”, claiming that it was an insult to China’s history.
“There is no room for discussion. If you want to cosplay, go somewhere else,” a tourist was heard telling the man off.
The man, who was cosplaying the character Draken, the vice-president of the Tokyo Manji Gang in the manga, relented and was seen removing the jacket.
The video trended on Weibo, with over 89 million views.
It was reported that the confrontation had arisen as Nanjing was the site of the Nanjing Massacre, scene of mass murder and rape committed by the Imperial Japanese troops against the city’s residents during the second Sino-Japanese War.
However, some Internet users pointed out that the tourists had overreacted over the cosplaying incident as there was no memorial of the tragic event at Xuanwu Lake.
“There is no reason to blow the incident out of proportion,” one wrote.
> Despite having to close down his business due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a man in China managed to return the 80,000 yuan (RM52,981) he owed to customers.
According to China Press, Chen Wei, 33, used to run a fruit shop in Nanjing in 2019 but was forced to wind up his business last year.
The business ended up owing 80,000 yuan to some 200 customers as he was unable to fulfil their orders.
However, Chen took up part-time jobs as a construction worker and a delivery rider, working 14-hour days to earn around 10,000 yuan (RM6,632) every month.
A handwritten list of customers remained a constant reminder of the money he owed them.
After nine months of hard work, Chen managed to track down all his former customers with the help of the police and cleared his debt on Jan 15 this year.
“It feels good to have repaid all my debts. I can now relax and enjoy my Chinese New Year,” said Chen, adding that he was looking forward to spending the extra money he now had on a hotpot meal.
