In a speech marking the four-year anniversary of Labour’s crushing election defeat under Jeremy Corbyn, he will claim that the party now believes in controlling immigration, backing the Armed Forces and supporting business.
And in a bid to win back sceptical voters who defected to the Tories, he is sending shadow cabinet ministers to visit seats which Labour lost in 2019.
In a speech on Tuesday, the Labour leader, left, will say: “This is a party that has fundamentally changed. Not just a paint job but a total overhaul. A different Labour Party, driven by your values.
By British values. We are a Labour Party that understands the first duty of Government is always to protect its people. That every pound the Government collects must be spent wisely, because it’s yours.”
Sir Keir will say the party has built relationships with business. He will add: “I run a Labour Party that knows that borders must be secured, that economic stability is the foundation for everything.”
