PETALING JAYA: The Human Resources Ministry will continue to strengthen its occupational safety and health programme for the welfare and well-being of the country's workforce, says the Human Resource Minister.

Steven Sim Chee Keong (pic) said the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (Niosh) would take the lead in implementing the programme.

"Recently, the country was faced with two worksite tragedies where Nur Ahmad Yusoff Muei in Selangor and R. Thinesh Kumar in Penang lost their lives," said Sim after visiting the Niosh office on Wednesday (Jan 3).

"This shows the need to enforce the Workers Safety and Health Act (amendment) 2022,” he added.

Sim said that as an institute responsible for upgrading the country's occupational safety and health level, Niosh is undertaking various efforts to increase the awareness of employers and workers to participate in the training offered.
