General Election hour-by-hour guide shows when YOU can find out your results

Millions of Britons have taken to the polls in the 2024 General Election, as Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer go head to head.

The 650 constituencies across the UK will vote today to elect new MPs and voters are already eager to get the results for their area.

LIVE UPDATES: Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer cast votes as country takes to polls

11pm

Blyth & Ashington is expected to be the first constituency to declare, with an estimated time of 11.30pm. It has a small majority of 814 for Labour so the winner and margin of victory could be an indication of how the night will play out.

The veteran Labour MP Ian Lavery is seeking re-election in the new constituency.

Bridget Phillipson, the shadow health secretary, will then find out if her chances of being in the cabinet remain on track, with the seat of Houghton & Sunderland South expected to declare next.

12am

An early upset for the Conservative Party could come when the seat of Basildon & Billericay declares at 12.15am, as Richard Holden, the party’s chairman, is contesting the seat despite facing a backlash from the members’ association in the constituency.

This result is expected to be followed by the results for Sunderland Central and Swindon South at 12.30am and Washington & Gateshead South at 12.45am.

1am

The first results from Scotland will start to trickle in along with many northern areas;

1am: Makerfield, Rutherglen, Tynemouth & Wigan 1.15am: Newcastle upon Tyne Central & West, Newcastle upon Tyne East & Wallsend and Newcastle upon Tyne North 1.30am: Barnsley North and Barnsley South 1.30am: East Kilbride & Strathaven, Leigh & Atherton, Putney and Tooting 1.45am: Hamilton & Clyde Valley, Harrogate & Knaresborough, Leicester South and North Swindon

2am

A large proportion of declarations are expected to take place at this point and North West Essex will declare, which is where Kemi Badenoch will learn her political fate.

Another seat to look out for is Rochdale, which George Galloway won for the Workers Party in a by-election in February.

3am

Lord Chancellor Alex Chalk (Cheltenham) will find out his result in a fight with the Lib Dems. He has a majority of just 981.

Conservative veteran Sir Iain Duncan Smith is also expected to find out if his time has come to an end in Chingford & Wood Green.

Jeremy Corbyn’s result in Islington North is also due. He is standing as an Independent after having the whip withdrawn and is taking on his old party.

Suella Braverman (Fareham & Waterlooville) will learn her fate as she bids to keep her seat allowing her to fight in any upcoming leadership race.

Nuneaton, held by Conservative MP Marcus Jones, will find out the result around this time. This is considered a bellwether seat, meaning a swing to Labour here will give a good indication of whether Sir Keir Starmer is really on for a huge majority.

Great Yarmouth should also declare in what Reform will hope will see their first victory in the constituency where Rupert Lowe is standing.

Labour’s Thangam Debonaire to Bristol Central to the Greens.

3.30am

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, will find out if he’s done enough to return as an MP for the new Godalming & Ash constituency. He has a fight with the Lib Dems.

Penny Mordaunt (Portsmouth North), a strong candidate to replace Sunak, will find out her fate at around this time.

Defence Secretary Grant Shapps (Welwyn Hatfield) will hear his result to find out whether he will remain in Parliament.

Cabinet members Gillian Keegan (Chichester) and Claire Coutinho (Surrey East) will find out if they have done enough to keep their seats.

4am

Rishi Sunak is expecting the result for his constituency of Richmond & Northallerton around this time as will Keir Starmer in Holborn & St Pancras.

Nigel Farage's Clacton result is due to come out, along with while Richard Tice around the same time in Boston and Skegness in Reform double.

Priti Patel is to hear her fate in the Tory seat in Witham in Essex, a sign she could be a frontrunner to take over from Rishi Sunak.

4.15am

Boris Johnson’s old seat of Uxbridge & South Ruislip in west London will announce its result around this time.

Key battlegrounds to watch out for tonight

Rishi Sunak is desperate to cling on to some of the Red Wall seats won by Boris Johnson at the 2019 election. While Sir Keir Starmer will be hoping that voters who deserted Labour five years ago have come back to the party.

With polling day upon us, we take a look at the seven key election battleground areas that will determine who seizes the keys to Downing Street on Friday.

BLUE WALL: The Conservatives also face an uphill challenge in the Blue Wall where they face a double onslaught from the Lib Dems and Labour. Areas that have traditionally always voted Tory in stockbroker areas and commuter towns that have grown disgruntled with the party’s offering.

MIDDLE ENGLAND: Bellwether seats could be the biggest pointer for determining the final outcome.

LONDON: Labour will be looking to clean up in the Capital following the recent London mayoral results.

ESSEX: Essex holds the future for the Tory party. If they lose as badly as expected then the party will soon be looking for a new leader.

SOUTH WEST: Labour and the Lib Dems have led a major assault on the southwest of England during the past few weeks.

SCOTLAND: The implosion of the SNP is expected to lead to a Labour resurgence north of the border and the polls have backed this up.

4.30am

Jacob Rees-Mogg in North East Somerset is expected to lose to Labour.

Lee Anderson who defected from the Tories to Reform will hear how he did in Ashfield.

5.30am

Polls suggest former PM Liz Truss faces a battle with Labour in her seat of South West Norfolk even with a huge majority of 26k.

6am

The final results for the election are expected to be announced between 6am and 7am.

Arch Brexiteer and former European Research Group chair Steve Baker will learn his fate in High Wycombe. The Northern Ireland minister has been fretting about his seat for months. Reports suggest he will stand to be the next Tory leader if he survives.

One of the very last declarations will be in Ilford North, where Shadow Health Secretary Wes Streeting is standing for the Labour Party.
