TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Japan's Nao Kodaira won speed skating World Cup silver in the women's 500-meter race in Stavanger, Norway on Saturday, her third podium finish in the event this season.
American Erin Jackson sprinted to her third 500 title of the season by crossing the line at Sormarka Arena in 37.602 seconds. Kodaira, the reigning Olympic champion over the distance, finished second in 37.708 while Poland's Kaja Ziomek placed third.
Canada's Laurent Dubreuil captured gold in the men's 500, where Japan's best result was Tatsuya Shinhama's fifth-place finish. Another Japanese, Wataru Morishige, ranked sixth.
This year's World Cup consists of four events, all of which are qualifiers for the 2022 Winter Olympics to be held in Beijing next February.
