Furious British fishermen feel let down by the Government, claiming they have been given "a very, very poor deal" on Brexit. James Green, director at the Whitstable Oyster Company, said that the crisis facing the British fishing industry was getting worse. He blamed the ongoing row between France and the UK over the post-Brexit fishing row for worsening the existing problems.

       Speaking to Sky News, Mr Green revealed that he lost roughly ￡25,000 worth of orders in less than a week.

       He said that ongoing threats from both the British and French politicians had made his buyers "nervous".

       Mr Green explained: "Coupled with Covid, coupled with Brexit, coupled with water quality from Southern Water.

       "This is the fourth thing in the space of less than a year that has had a massive impact on our industry."

       Sky News business correspondent Helen-Ann Smith reported: "Whitstable in Kent is famous for oysters.

       "But for those that produce them, the cost of Brexit is rising.

       "New rules on the export of shellfish has left this business 50 percent down already.

       "And the post-treaty disputes are making things worse."

       Mr Green continued: "You can't just take away that main market overnight and expect these businesses to continue because they are just not.

       "There are only so many hits, so many body punches you can take as a business and get back up and start again."

       He was persuaded to vote to leave the EU due to the promises on fisheries.

       However, Mr Green noted: "The deal we got was very very poor.

       "I would change my vote if I'm honest. I think the Government have let us down."

       The threats from the French side were pulled earlier this week.

       However, there are growing fears that the British cabinet will invoke Article 16, suspending parts of the Brexit deal.

       European Commission Vice-President Maros Sefcovic has warned that there will be "serious consequences" if the UK triggers Article 16.
