PETALING JAYA: Should a no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister be tabled in the next Parliament session, it is likely that only four Umno MPs may support it, says Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz (pic).

       The Padang Rengas MP said the vote to oust Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and the Perikatan Nasional government would likely be supported by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, party secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, Machang MP Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakob and Gua Musang MP Tan Sri Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.

       The former Barisan Nasional secretary-general also said Datuk Seri Najib Razak was unlikely to support the motion but did not elaborate further.

       “No, I am confident he (Najib) won’t. Why? I don’t need to say.

       “I believe others will also reject the motion because the end goal is clear that Umno wants to work with DAP to put Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the Prime Minister’s seat,” he told Sinar Harian on Thursday (June 24).

       Nazri was responding to Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s statement on Wednesday (June 23), who guaranteed that Barisan MPs would reject any no-confidence vote if it is tabled when Parliament eventually reconvenes.

       He also said the number of Barisan MPs signing a statutory declaration (SD) to give the mandate to Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein as their spokesman could soon hit 30 from the current 25.

       Nazri said the SD could be seen as an effort by Umno and Barisan MPs to replace Ahmad Zahid as party president if party polls are held soon.

       “Let me be clear that the ones who are going against Umno’s constitution are not us but Ahmad Zahid’s camp, who had the audacity to misinform the King when he was granted an audience in October.

       “I am also calling on the Umno disciplinary board to open their eyes and take appropriate disciplinary action against Ahmad Zahid in upholding the party’s good name,” he added.
