Floods: Two relief centres open in Selangor, one in Negri

       SUNGAI BULOH: Nearly 400 people have been evacuated due to floods following continuous downpour here since Tuesday evening.

       Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar said two temporary relief centres (PPS) have been opened at SK Merbau Sempak and Dewan MPKS, Desa Coalfields so far.

       "We have evacuated 372 people involving 88 families.

       "The areas affected include Jalan Jati, Kampung Melayu Subang, Jalan Gajah 1, Jalan Gajah 5,Jalan Gajah 6, Jalan Gajah 16, Jalan Gajah 20, Jalan Gajah 23, Jalan Gajah 24, Kampung Sri Aman and Taman Saujana Aman," he said when contacted on Wednesday (April 17).

       He said Bukit Jelutong, Rawang, Sungai Buloh and Bestari Jaya Fire Stations were currently involved in flood operations involving 40 personnel, three boats, four utility trucks and fire engines.

       Meanwhile, in SEREMBAN, a PPS was opened at the Permatang Pasir Community Hall in Port Dickson early today following flash floods in the district, reported Bernama.

       According to a statement issued by the Negri Sembilan Disaster Management Committee of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), the PPS was opened at 4.08am and accommodated 46 victims from two families.

       "Several rivers recorded readings at alert and dangerous levels as of 7am today, namely Sungai Linggi and Sungai Triang in Jelebu," it said.

       The Malaysian Meteorological Department had posted a thunderstorm warning on its official Facebook page at 6.10am today.

       "Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected at Kedah (Yan, Kuala Muda, Kulim dan Bandar Baharu), Pulau Pinang and Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang dan Muallim), Pahang (Raub dan Bentong), Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

       The same is expected at Negri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Port Dickson and Rembau), Melaka, Johor (Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat dan Pontian), Sarawak: Kuching, Serian, Samarahan (Samarahan dan Asajaya), Sibu (Selangau), Mukah (Mukah), Kapit (Song dan Kapit), Bintulu dan Miri (Subis dan Miri) until 9am," it said.
