KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Choong Kai Wai officially begins his role on Friday as S P Setia Bhd’s new president and chief executive officer.

       In a statement on Friday, the group said Choong’s mission is to establish new points of business sustainability that will intelligently position S P Setia as ready to adapt and react to new market needs and norms, as well as keeping a pulse on environmental responsibilities.

       “Under this new approach to business sustainability is also a digital transformation drive. Digitalisation for S P Setia will mean a seamless customer experience journey from first contact, right up to curated lifestyle experiences for owners and residents in its properties and townships,” it said.

       Choong has over 30 years of experience in the property and construction industry, which includes both domestic and international markets is a leader known for his ability to bring visions to fruition.

       He set up Setia Australia in Melbourne in 2010 and had since established Setia as a strong brand name in Australia’s property market, leading Setia to be a trusted property developer in the country and Asia Pacific region.

       Meanwhile, S P Setia chairman Tan Sri Syed Anwar Jamalullail said as S P Setia scales up its sustainability journey in its vision to become an even more sustainable and digitalised property player.

       “I have no doubt that Datuk Choong, in assuming his role today, will be able to provide strategic guidance to the board, management and indeed the entire Setia Group with fresh innovative ideas and lead in the transformation for Setia to stay relevant in this digital age,” he said.

       Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Koe Peng Kang takes up his role as S P Setia’s new COO.

       The group said Koe is a solid operational and business development leader, having held various positions throughout the company and is a highly respected figure in Malaysia’s property industry.

       Koe has over 30 years of experience in the fields of engineering, construction and property development with a strong management background.

       He has been with S P Setia since 1997 and has been directly involved in landmark developments, specifically the Group’s award-winning Eco Series. His vast experience makes him the right person to take on the role of deputy president and COO.

       Syed Anwar said likewise for Koe who has been in S P Setia since 1997 and directly involved in the successful development of the Eco Series for the S P Setia Group and the combination of Choong and Koe will present the group with the right opportunity to bring Setia to greater heights.

       He and the board also thanked Datuk Khor Chap Jen and Datuk Wong Tuck Wai for repositioning S P Setia to a market leadership position successfully in these past six years.

       “Both your leadership have seen Setia achieving many awards ranging from the nine coveted World Gold recipients of FIABCI Prix d’Excellence Awards and five No.1 wins in The Edge Top Property Developer awards to strengthening the brand’s presence in the United Kingdom, Australia, Vietnam, Singapore, China and establishing our presence in Japan during the mandated tenure,” he said.
