JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) is prepared to work closely with assemblymen and MPs from other parties in tackling issues concerning the people, says its president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
He said that as Muar MP, he was open to working closely with other political parties to solve the people's problems.
"I welcome collaboration with others, including assemblymen and village chiefs of other political parties.
"Similarly, in Puteri Wangsa, I have told Muda assemblyman Amira (Aisya Abd Aziz) to also work with other parties wherever possible.
"It is important for us to work together if we want to help the people on the ground, especially on local issues," he told reporters when met at the Muda Puteri Wangsa Hari Raya open house here on Sunday (May 29) night.
However, the former youth and sports minister declined to comment when asked if Muda was looking into working with other parties from the Opposition in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).
"Muda's focus is on solving problems faced by the people... we want to focus on policy politics.
"There is no use gathering 20 or more parties if we cannot even solve the core issues of the people.
"There are many questions to be asked when it comes to such collaborations, which is why I would rather not comment on the matter.
"Our focus is on solving the people's problems," he added.
Meanwhile, Johor Party Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) chief Steven Choong, who attended the open house, said he welcomed collaboration with other parties in GE15.
"For now, PBM has yet to have any confirmed collaboration with other parties for GE15.
"However, I am open and even welcome such collaboration. For me, it is better for the Opposition to stand together or at least have some form of strategic cooperation for the election," said Choong, who is Tebrau MP.
Choong, who contested the Puteri Wangsa seat in the March 12 Johor state election and lost to Amira Aisya, said he had been working closely with Muda on local issues.
