KOTA KINABALU: Pakatan Harapan supporters have lost their hopes for a change in the government under the current coalition leadership, says Sabah DAP secretary Phoong Jin Zhe.
He said based on his observation and social media posts, the people feel that Pakatan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim cannot deliver what they were hoping for.
“This has been going on since 2013, when Anwar failed to get the results expected of him in leading Pakatan.
“Rejuvenation of the current leadership in Pakatan is vital to recapture people’s hope and aspirations for a better Malaysia,” he said yesterday.
The Luyang assemblyman and newly-minted Sabah DAP secretary added that it was not wrong to try and move in another direction for the sake of rejuvenating the coalition.
“But I am not asking him to step down nor am I indicating that he is responsible for the loss of the just concluded Melaka election because that is a huge responsibility to shoulder, and I do not want to put that blame on Anwar.
“Unity within the coalition is important to keep Pakatan strong and steer towards the direction of change that they aim for.
“These two points – unity and rejuvenation – do not contradict one another; they complement each other,” he added.
Phoong said unity would help Pakatan soldier on and emerge stronger than before, to push for new ideas and new blood to meet the current aspirations of the people.
“Changes and a re-strategising of the operations ahead of the 15th General Election are inevitable if Pakatan wants to make the impact needed to win,” he said.
