MELAKA: Dozens of trishaw riders received their "duit raya" when RM200 was credited into their ewallets.
Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali said the one-off payment was made to 305 trishaw riders on Monday (April 18).
"Trishaw riders in the state were the first to receive the payment through the ewallet scheme," he said after handing over Hari Raya goodies to the trishaw riders at Bandar Hilir here.
Sulaiman said the effort of distributing the payment through the digital platform was also aimed at minimising the infection of Covid-19.
"Furthermore, it is the objective of the state government to transform our trishaw riders to adapt to digital payment methods," he said.
Sulaiman said the state government would also ensure that 20 more trishaw riders, who have yet to register for the ewallet, would do so before Hari Raya.
He also said tourists can opt to pay for their trishaw rides using the digital method in the future.
