KUCHING: Police have arrested a civil servant for allegedly hurting his wife and smashing her mobile phone here.

       Kuching police chief Asst Comm Ahsmon Bajah said the 23-year-old suspect was detained on April 17 after two reports were lodged on Dec 17, 2021 and Jan 10, 2022.

       He said the suspect smashed his wife's mobile phone and hurt her in two separate incidents.

       "The suspect is being investigated under Sections 323 and 427 of the Penal Code and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act," he said in a statement on Wednesday (May 25).

       The statement was issued after a post about the alleged abuse on Twitter on Tuesday (May 24).

       ACP Ahsmon urged the public not to speculate on the case as investigations were ongoing.

       He said the investigation papers would be forwarded to the Attorney General's Chambers for further action.
