TOKYO -- Photo studios' Halloween services are proving popular with young people in Japan who want "Instaworthy" photos in authentic costumes as many events are seeing cancellations amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Esperanto Kokoro Minami Aoyama Studio in Tokyo's Minato Ward offers rental costumes, hair and makeup as well as photo shoots by professional photographers. The studio says it's seeing about three times as many customers as last year.
A 29-year-old woman who came to the studio for a clown-themed photo shoot said, "I used to participate in cosplay events at amusement parks, but now we can't get together with friends due to the coronavirus pandemic. Considering the risk of meeting people and hanging out in crowded areas this year, I plan to have fun with cosplay friends on social media."
