KLANG: Some 200 teachers and staff members at the Chung Hua Klang High School received self-care kits to prevent the spread of Covid-19 at school.

       The virus prevention supplies, worth over RM20,000, were aimed at better equipping the teaching staff in conjunction with the school reopening and resumption of physical learning.

       Klang Wanita MCA chief Tee Hooi Ling said the initiative was a collaboration between the Crisis Relief Squad of MCA’s (CRSM) GoCare movement together with Savelives, a homegrown producer and distributor of various personal protective equipment (PPE).

       "The #BeMYHero School Pandemic Prevention and Caring Program Campaign is conducted in conjunction with the reopening of schools in support of the new norms.

       "We want to raise the awareness of self-protection against Covid-19, maintain self-discipline and provide more care and support to schools, especially the teaching staff.

       "They have been the frontliners at schools to keep the students safe,” she said here on Wednesday (Nov 3).

       Tee noted that the campaign has so far covered seven schools in the Klang Valley, Melaka and Perak, with over 60 more schools to go nationwide.

       "We are grateful for Savelives’ generosity in sponsoring the PPE,” she said.

       Savelives chief executive officer Lee Sai Yew said that teachers play an important role in keeping school children safe from the virus infection.

       "That’s why we decided to equip teachers with the personal protection kit, which includes a mini sanitisation mist that is convenient to use when they move from class to class.

       "When the teachers are protected, our school children will also be protected as well,” he said.

       Lee noted that Savelives is glad to lend a hand in keeping some 5,000 school teachers safe as the campaign moves on to cover more schools in the country, ensuring they are safeguarded with high-quality and user-friendly protective gear.

       "We wouldn’t be able to do this without the collaboration of CRSM GoCare. We hope the kits would be useful for them,” he added.

       Chung Hua Klang High School principal Tay Keng Lee said he was thankful for the donation, which would benefit some 140 teachers and other supporting staff.

       "Although all of our teachers are fully vaccinated and a majority of our students have also received their vaccinations, it does not mean we are safe from Covid-19 infection.

       "Let us raise awareness of self-protection as we enter into the endemic phase of the virus," he added.
