The castle keep of Matsumoto Castle, a Japanese national treasure in the Nagano Prefecture city of Matsumoto, is seen reflecting "laser mapping" in this recent photo, ahead of the city's tourism promotion event "Matsumoto Illumination 2021-2022," which kicks off on the evening of Dec. 1. The laser mapping show is part of the winter event and is the city's first attempt at such a lighting display at the castle. During the show's premiere for the media on Nov. 23, blue and red laser beams, as well as spotlights were shone on the castle keep to music, making it look like it emerged from the darkness. A city official said three laser mapping patterns will be showcased for three minutes each. The event will run until Feb. 28, 2022.
