Covid-19: Child, teen among 84 fatalities on Thursday (June 24)

       PUTRAJAYA: Another 84 people in Malaysia died of Covid-19 on Thursday (June 24), bringing the death toll to 4,721.

       In his daily Covid-19 press updates, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 73 of those who died were Malaysians while 11 were foreign nationals.

       The Klang Valley recorded half of the deaths, with Selangor accounting for 32 and Kuala Lumpur with 10.

       Negri Sembilan had 10 deaths, followed by Kelantan (eight), Johor (seven), Kedah (six), Labuan (three), Melaka (two), Perak (two), Pahang (two), Sabah (one) and Terengganu (one).

       Eleven cases have been classified as brought-in-dead.

       Two boys, aged eight and 16, were the youngest casualties.

       The eight-year-old had asthma and died at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun in Ipoh.

       The 16-year-old had MELAS Syndrome and succumbed at the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

       Currently, 869 patients are being treated in intensive care units (ICU), with 438 on ventilators.

       Malaysia reported 5,841 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday.
