DAR ES SALAAM, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Friday night sent a condolence to Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta following the death of former President Mwai Kibaki.

       "I'm deeply saddened by the passing on of the third President of Kenya, H.E Mwai Kibaki," President Hassan said in her official tweet.

       "Africa has lost one of its finest sons and a dedicated public servant," she said.

       Tanzania's Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi said he received information about the death of Kibaki with shock and great sorrow.

       On Friday, President Kenyatta announced the death of Kibaki in the Kenyan capital Nairobi.

       Kenyatta declared a period of mourning, including the flying of the national flag at half-mast, until a state funeral was held.

       Kibaki, who died aged 90, was Kenya's third president, serving from 2002 to 2013.
