KUALA LUMPUR: The police have arrested two men in connection with the slashing of two sales assistants at a block of flats here.
Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Noor Dellhan Yahaya said the incident occurred at around 2am on Monday (Feb 21).
"We detected a tweet about the incident on Tuesday which was posted by Twitter handle @Thehulkey who claimed his staff had been beaten and slashed by a group of men at the flats.
"We began investigating the case and managed to arrest two suspects aged 20 and 24 to assist with investigations.
"The two suspects have been remanded for three days to help our probe," he said, adding that police were now trying to identify and arrest other suspects still at large.
He said that although the Twitter user alleged that a group of 13 people were involved in the attack, police investigations revealed that a number of people were actually there to break up the fight.
"The first victim suffered injuries to his head, while the second victim suffered injuries to his face, head, right hand and waist.
"The two victims work at a sports shop. The motive for the attack was believed to be over a misunderstanding over a girl," he said, adding that the case has been classified as voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
ACP Noor Dellhan warned the public against taking matters into their own hands.
"We will not hesitate to take stern action against anyone who intentionally breaks the law. Those with information on the case should contact the Dang Wangi police at 03-2600 2222 or the City police hotline 03-2115 9999," he said.
