A 12-year-old girl died Thursday morning after she was hit by a car Wednesday night on a highway in far southwest suburban Plainfield, authorities said.
Plainfield police said the girl was a passenger in a 2009 Nissan Rogue that was making a turn from Riverwalk Court and did not yield to an SUV traveling south on Illinois Route 59, leading to a crash. The girl got out of the Nissan and was running away from the collision when a third car traveling north struck her, police said.
