TOKYO -- Giant panda twins Xiao Xiao and Lei Lei will go on public display at Ueno Zoological Gardens in the capital's Taito Ward from Jan. 12 next year, Tokyo Gov. Yuriko Koike announced in a regular press conference on Dec. 10.
The male and female twins are expected to go on display with their mother Shin Shin in the zoo's "Panda Forest," so that visitors can see their interaction, from 10 a.m. to noon each day. The zoo will consider extending the viewing time depending on the situation.
A lottery will be held to limit the number of viewers to about 1,000 people per day for the time being. People will be able to apply online, and details will be announced at a later date.

The two panda cubs are steadily growing and each weigh more than 10 kilograms. Their range of activities has increased and they are able to climb trees little by little. They apparently spend time outdoors for short periods.
Gov. Koike said, "I can only say that they (Xiao Xiao and Lei Lei) are cute no matter what they do. I'm relived just to see the twins playing with each other."
