Third wave OVER? New chart shows Covid cases plummet in all age groups - freedom boost

At midnight on Sunday, July 18, laws in England requiring masks to be worn in shops and other indoor settings expired. The capacity limits in bars and restaurants, as well as the number of people who can socialise together, have also been scrapped.

Clubs up and down the country reopened and revellers danced through the night.

The Prime Minister was criticised for reopening England as Government scientific advisers warned England could be back in lockdown within three weeks.

However, according to figures by the Spectator, in a seven-day moving average COVID-19 cases in all age groups in England have dropped.

The figures to July 23 found cases in those aged between 20-39 plummeted from more than 20,000 to below 14,000.

Those under 20 also dropped from more than 12,000 to below 10,000.

For those aged 40-59, cases dropped from more than 8,000 to nearly 7,000, while those over 60 had more than 2,000 cases.

According to the Spectator, the over-60s made up seven percent of total cases on July 22.

To add to the reassuring news, every region across England also saw all cases of the virus drop.

As of July 23, the North East of England saw cases fall by 37.4 percent compared to the figures published on July 16.

The Yorkshire and Humber's figures also dropped by 23.1 percent and the North West - which was a Covid hotspot - saw the number of cases fall by 25.4 percent.

West Midlands fell by 25.8 percent and the South West plummetted by 20.7 percent.

East Midlands, East of England and the South East all saw their cases fall by 19.9 percent, 16.1 percent and 18.7 percent respectively.

COVID-19: Cases fall, fears remain, the pings continue [REVEAL]

London had the lowest drop in new cases in a seven-day rolling average after they fell by 11.8 percent.

Monday marked the sixth day in a row that the number of new infections fell but there are still fears Mr Johnson's Freedom Day will lead to a fresh surge in cases.

Members of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) have reportedly advised Mr Johnson to be ready to take action in the first week of August to avoid the NHS being overwhelmed if worst-case scenarios become reality.

Insiders told i the situation would become clearer in the weeks ahead and to a large extent would be determined by vaccination uptake and individual behaviour.

The Prime Minister has refused to rule out the possibility of another lockdown if circumstances dictate.

At the beginning of July, as he was announcing the Government's intentions to push ahead with step four of the roadmap out of lockdown, Mr Johnson warned the public that "we are far from the end of dealing with this virus".

He emphasised that should a vaccine-resistant strain emerge or deaths surge after the summer, he would take "whatever steps necessary to protect the public."

The Government's decision to push ahead with Freedom Day has attracted strong criticism from many within the international scientific community.

Professor Susan Michie, a member of SAGE's behavioural science subcommittee, claimed the PM's opening up plans were helping to "build new ‘variant factories’ at a very fast rate.”
