A woman was killed Monday night in a double shooting in Southeast Washington, the D.C. police said.

       The woman was shot about 8:30 p.m. in the 4900 block of G Street SE, said Officer Sean Hickman, a police spokesman.

       A man also was shot, but was conscious and breathing when taken to a hospital, Hickman said.

       It rained heavily in parts of the Washington area Monday night, but it was not clear whether it was raining at the shooting site when the victims were hit.

       Maps designate the area where the shooting occurred as the Civic Betterment neighborhood. It is triangular, wedged between Benning Road on the west, and Southern Avenue on the east.
