Woman dies after being ran over by truck in Sydney

       Appalling video footage has shown the moment a mum is knocked down and killed by lorry as her horrified son watches on.

       The tragedy occurred as Leonia Picone, 55, gave her son, aged 17, a driving lesson in Wetherill Park in Sydney, Australia, yesterday morning (August 30).

       Ms Picone stepped out of her Ford Mondeo to remonstrate with the driver, who had appeared to clip her car on the busy road.

       Her son, wearing a bright yellow jacket, also gets out of their vehicle and stands at the side of the large truck.

       Single mum Ms Picone called the emergency services to report the minor shunt.

       In the clip, Ms Picone, angrily waving her arms, then moves in front of the lorry, which jolts forward, hitting her.

       Paramedics tried to save her life, but she died at the scene.

       The incident resulted in significant traffic delays after the road was closed to allow emergency services to get to the scene.

       Ms Picone’s son was treated for shock after the crash.

       The 51-year-old truck driver was later tested for drugs and alcohol and questioned for police, but has not been charged with any crime.

       A crime scene has been established and a coroner’s report will now be prepared.

       New South Wales police Inspector Josh Dixon said. “It's absolutely horrendous for the family. The pedestrian was on the road attempting to get the attention of the driver of that vehicle.”

       Ms Picone’s family later gathered at the scene to pay tribute to her.

       Brother-in-law Kevin Cameron said Ms Picone was a “good mother” who cared for her parents, the Daily Telegraph reported.
