Petrol shortage UK: Where can you still get fuel? Affected petrol stations listed

Many petrol stations have been forced to close their forecourts as they can’t supply their pumps. Motorists across the UK face long queues at petrol stations as drivers rush to fill up amid reports of fuel shortages. Just how bad is the situation? Which stations have run out of petrol?

Despite widespread panic, the UK has not run out of petrol.

Low petrol stocks are not the main reason behind the recent closure of petrol stations.

A lack of HGV drivers has meant certain suppliers have been unable to transport petrol and diesel to resupply their forecourts.

Not all petrol suppliers have been affected by the shortage of drivers.

BP and Tesco are the only two suppliers who are experiencing problems with their supply chain.

However, this has impacted other suppliers too, as many Brits have rushed to their nearest petrol station over fears supplies could run out.

Morrisons have said its 338 petrol stations are not experiencing supply issues due to driver shortages, according to the BBC.

Co-op has assured customers it has a "full complement" of delivery drivers, to be able to supply the 130 petrol stations it operates.

Both Sainsbury's and Asda have reported no issues in their supplies according to the BBC.

BP is the largest operator of petrol stations in the UK.

There are around 1,200 BPO branded petrol stations around the country, 300 of these are operated by BP themselves.

BP has said “a handful of sites” have been temporarily closed, but they haven’t specified which ones.

The oil giant said in a statement: “We are experiencing some fuel supply issues at some of our retail sites in the UK and unfortunately have therefore seen a handful of sites temporarily close due to a lack of both unleaded and diesel grades.”

They say they will continue to provide 80 percent of normal services to nine in ten of their forecourts.

They added they will prioritise their motorway services to ensure customers have access to fuel on long journeys.

BP says it has “two-thirds of normal forecourt stock levels required for smooth operations.”

Esso has also experienced supply issues forcing them to close “a small number” of the 200 Tesco Alliance sites they own.

They said: “We are working closely with all parties in our distribution network to optimise supplies and minimise any inconvenience to customers.”
