The Reform UK leader said former prime minister David Cameron’s decision “to go to war” was “total madness”.
A bloody civil war – following the death of tyrant Muammar Gaddafi – led to anarchy in Libya, allowing the smuggling of militants, weapons and migrants across the Mediterranean Sea.
Britain and France led an international coalition in 2011 to prevent Gaddafi’s forces from slaughtering thousands of people.

But Mr Farage said: “Equally, unlike Labour or Conservatives, I said on day one of the Iraq War what is your long-term goal? What is your exit strategy? And do you know what, they never, ever had one.
“And in Libya in 2012 when Cameron decides to go to war with Libya, with full support from the Labour party, I was the one saying this is madness, total madness.
“And you know before the Libyan war, Isis didn’t even exist. We helped create Isis, we were absolutely idiotic when it came to these things. And there were no small boats crossing the Mediterranean before the Libyan war and the knock-on here.
“I would put myself up on foreign policy against any of these people. I have got the track record of being right.”
Libya has been battered by many armed groups who emerged after the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
A series of armed uprisings that led to the long-time dictator's killing created a security vacuum, with much of the country lawless and chaotic since.
Libya is currently divided between the internationally recognised government in the west, led by interim Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah in Tripoli, and an administration in the east run by military strongman Khalifa Haftar.
ISIS has taken advantage of the disintegration of Libya’s security apparatus to carry out several deadly attacks across the country. It has also set up strongholds in the eastern and northern towns of Derna and Sirte, before they were driven out.
Western intelligence and military sources are increasingly concerned about the jihadist threat posed by militants in the Sahel region of Africa.
The Counter Extremism Project said the number of attacks is rising in Nigeria, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and Cameroon.
Jihadists have even abducted and executed suspected Wagner-group spies in Mali. The Russian mercenary group is carrying out different activities across several African countries, including gathering information and protecting regimes.
Western governments, including Britain, are concerned the Malian Government has increasingly aligned itself with the notorious group.
British troops are withdrawing early and ministers fear the Wagner Group is targeting the instability in the region to increase its influence.
